Mutation Monday!
Today we are talking about 'wraps'/ ebony combinations. Last week I explained how ebony causes the coloring to wrap all the way around the animal, removing the white belly. Well another cool fact about ebony is that it can coexist with other mutations as well. This leads to many many more colors. With the combination of the ebony gene it causes the other mutation expressed to 'wrap' all the way around the belly. Wraps can come in a wide range of phases; from light to extra dark. Below are a few examples and the genetics that make them up.
Violet wrap-2 violet genes + ebony
Sapphire wrap- 2 sapphire genes + ebony
Tan- beige + ebony
TOV ebony- TOV + ebony
Blue diamond wrap- 2 violet genes +2 sapphire genes + ebony
Tan white- beige + white+ ebony
White ebony- white + ebony
Any of these mutes are able to be shown, but with the presence of the ebony gene breeders must pay close attention to avoid any signs of a red hue (or yellow in the white combos).
